Hanwha Eagles infielder Lee Do-yoon started as the seventh batter and second baseman in the first regular-season showdown with NC of the "2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League" held at Hanwha Life Ball Park in Daejeon on Wednesday. He showed strong performance by posting three hits, four RBIs and one run from five times at bat on the day, contributing to his 12-4 victory.

Lee Do-yoon displayed unusual batting performance. With the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the first inning when Hanwha was leading 1-0, he hit a timely two-run homer against Logan Allen, the starting pitcher of the NC Dinosaurs, to make the game 3-0. He rested for a while afterwards, but scored an additional point 10-4 with a two-run timely hit with the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning when his team was leading 8-4.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, which was the last at-bat, he hit an infield hit to shortstop and stepped on first base again. Lee Do-yoon, who plagued the NC mound throughout the game, hit four RBIs to set a new record for the most RBIs in a single game.

Lee Do-yoon, who was selected as a trainee, said after the game, "I was happy to have a hit that could have continued the flow from a chance that almost blocked me. Before the game, the power analysis team set the ball speed and the starting pitcher's pitch in the same way as the ball speed, and matched the machine that allows the ball to come out randomly. When I saw the ball, I could hit it without difficulty, maybe because it was familiar to me."

Lee's batting performance has not been good lately. He had a batting average of 0.200 (four hits in 20 at-bats) and four RBIs for this season before the game, but he did not miss the opportunity to start, drawing attention.

"I was nervous at the opportunity to score, but I had higher expectations," Lee said. "I thought, 'I have this opportunity,' and I wanted to eat it all without giving up on others. That's what I always do when I score points," Lee said. "I hit it well on a single day. I don't know if I can continue going forward, but I'm going to train more so that I can keep it steady."

During the off-season, Hanwha experienced fluctuations in its infield lineup. It signed a free agent contract with Shim Woo-joon to guarantee its position as the main shortstop.

This affected existing infield commander Lee Do-yoon. Lee has played in more than 100 games for the second consecutive year in the 2023-2024 season, and has played in the most games and defensive innings in his team as a shortstop. Notably, he posted a new career high last year with a batting average of 0.277 (336 hits and 93 hits) in 134 games during the regular season, one homer, 46 RBIs, and six steals (OPS), but gave way to Shim Woo-joon. He had to start over.

Despite this, Lee was confident. "I would have brought him because I thought (the shortstop) was weak in the team. I quickly admitted that. In fact, I didn't have a hard time as I didn't start the season as a starting member. I just waited calmly, saying, "I can play in the second half of the game."

Lee said, "I want to contribute to Hanwha's infield team no matter what. It would be better if I continue to play as a main player and do well, but even if I don't, I want to make up for my shortcomings by playing as a mainstay in the background." "Anything is possible. Third base is fine, too. If you go out, you can do anything. I think you have to serve for one person wherever you go." "I practice in all three places (except first baseman). I am constantly preparing because I don't know when or where I will participate in the training. I think I will be able to see good movements when I come to the venue," he said, renewing his strong commitment.
